June in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty four

                               State of Maryland Dorchester County, To wit:  Be it remembered
that on this nineteenth day of June in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and forty four before the Subscriber one of the Justices of the Peace in and
for the said County personally appeared William T. Richardson party to the above or
within Indenture or deed of Manumission and acknowledged the said manumission
to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning of the same

Goodman Gootee      Be it remembered that the following Bill of Sale was recorded
       from      Ex.d      on the 25.th day of June 1844, To wit:
Samuel Mowbray      Know all men by these presents that I Samuel Mobray of Dorchester
                                 County state of Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of one
hundred and fifty dollars current money of Maryland to me in hand paid by Goodman
Gootee of County and State aforesaid at and before the sealing and delivery of these of
these presents the receipt whereof I the said Samuel Mobray do hereby acknowledge
have granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do hereby grant, bargain
and sell unto the said Goodman Gootee his heirs or assigns; that is to say a Negro
Girl Jain aged five years a Slave for life and a Boy George aged three years
a slave for life now delivered to the said Goodman Gootee; To have and to hold
the said Negroes above bargained and sold unto the said Goodman Gootee his
heirs and assigns forever.  In Witness whereof I the said Samuel Mowbray have
hereunto set my hand and seal this 11.th day of June 1844.
Signed, sealed & delivered in the presence of
       Henry Shenton                                                   Samuel Mobray         (Seal)

                                  Maryland Dorchester County To wit:   On this 11.th day of June
1844 appeared Samuel Mobray before me the Subscriber a Justice of the Peace in and
for said County and acknowledged the above Bill of sale to be his Act and deed according

John S. Staplefort      Know all men by these presents that I John Staplefort of Dorchester
                                 County State of Maryland for and in consideration of
the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars current money to me in hand paid by Goodman
Gootee of County and state aforesaid the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge,
have granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do grant, bargain & sell unto
the said Goodman Gootee a negro woman Mary aged twenty two years a Slave
for life and formerly the property of Samuel Mowbray; To have and to hold the said
