224 of Dorchester County and state aforesaid the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge, have granted, bargained, sold and delivered and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell and deliver unto the said Anthony C Thompson my negro slave Alfred which I purchased at Sheriffs sale in Talbot County belonging to the Estate of Doct.r Absalom Thompson being one of the slaves he got from the Estate of his Father and to serve according to his said Father's Will twenty years from the 23.d day of April last which said slave Alfred I will warrant and defend to the said Anthony C. Thompson his executors administrators and assigns against me my executors administrators or assigns and against my name and affixed my seal this ninth day of May 1844 In the presence of James Rea Ricksom Webb (seal) Maryland Dorchester County ss. On the 9.th day of May 1844 before me one of the Justices of the Peace in and for the said County appears Ricksom Webb and acknowledges the foregoing writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the Acts of Assembly in such case made and provided James Rea Joseph E. Muse Be it remembered that the following Release from Ex.d was recorded on the 7.th day of June 1844, To wit: Margaret M. Chamberlain This Indenture made this seventh day of June in the year eighteen hundred and forty four between Margaret M. Chamberlain of Talbot County state of Maryland of the one part and Joseph E Muse of Dorchester County & State aforesaid of the other Talbot afs.d engage to perform the duties of Guardian to said Margaret M Chamberlain and has performed them during the said Margaret M. Chamberlains Minority as well or since her arival at age and use to the first day of January eighteen hundred and forty three Now this Indenture Witnesseth that the said Margaret M. Chamberlain for and in consideration of payment having been made by said Joseph to said Margaret in full of all Bond, Notes, bills, accounts, claims and demands in law and equity in the premises aforesaid or in any regard whatsoever; and for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar to her in hand paid by said Joseph at & before the sealing & delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath hereby released, discharged and exonerated and by these presents doth release, discharge & exonerate the said Joseph E. Muse his heirs executors and administrators from all claims, obligations & demands in any way arising from the premises above recited or in any way whatsoever In Witness whereof the said Margaret M. Chamberlain hath |
