220. State of Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit: on the 25.th day of April 1844 before me the subscribers a Justice of the Peace in and for the said County and state personally appeared William A. Sullivane and acknowledged the above Bill of sale or instrument of writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof. Acknowledged before Charles Corkran State of Maryland Be it remembered that the following Bond and recorded on the from Ex.d 26.th day of April 1844, To wit: William Creighton Know all men by these presents that we William Creighton William Rea, John R. Creighton and Jeremiah C. Wright of Dorchester County are held and firmly bound unto the State of Maryland in the full and just sum of fifteen thousand dollars current money of the United States to be paid to the State of Maryland to the which payment well and truly to be made and done we bind ourselves and every of us our and every of our heirs, executors and administrators in the whole and for the whole jointly and severally firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals and dated this 22.d day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty four. The Condition of the above obligation is such that if the above bounden William Creighton shall well and faithfully discharge the duties of Treasurer of the Primary Schools of Dorchester County according to law then the above obligation shall be void otherwise it is to be and remain in full force and virtue in law Signed, sealed & delivered W.m Creighton (seal) in the presence of William Rea (seal) Tho A. Hicks John R. Creighton (seal) Dorchester County, To wit; J. C. Wright (seal) on the 26.th day of April Anno Domini 1844 then came before me a Justice of the Peace in and for Dorchester County Thomas H. Hicks the witness to the within Bond and made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that he saw William Creighton, William Rea, John R. Creighton and Jeremiah C. Wright the within obligors sign the within Bond and acknowledge the same to be their act and deed according to the purports true intent and meaning of the same to be of his knowledge. Certified by Charles Corkran Bond approved by the Commissioners William Rea Clerk Manumission Be it remembered that the following Manumission was recorded Robert Parker on the 26.th day of April 1844, To wit: to Ex.d To all whom it may concern be it know that I Robert Parker of Samuel Anthony Dorchester County in the state of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of one dollar current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery, liberated, manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery, liberate, manumit and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery, liberate, manumit and set free my Negro Man named Samuel Anthony being of the age of thirty five years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and him the said Negro Man named Samuel Anthony I do declare to be henceforth free, manumitted |
