unto the said J. Dougherty & C.o their executors, administrators and assigns against
him the said J. W. Dashiell his executors and administrators and against all and
every other person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by
these presents.  In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 30.th
day of March eighteen hundred and forty four

Be it remembered that on this 30.th day of March 1844 before the subscriber a
Justice of the Peace for said County appears John W. Dashiell and acknowledges
the above instrument of writing to be his act and deed according to the true
intent and meaning thereof.  Acknowledged before               Joel Cornwell


Francis P. Phelps      Be it remembered that the following Bill of Sale was
       from    Ex.d       recorded on the 5.th day of April 1844, To wit:
Aaron Cook             Know all men by these presents that I Aaron Cook for &
                                in consideration of the premises hereinafter named and five
dollars to me in hand paid by Francis P. Phelps have granted, bargained & sold
and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell unto the said Francis P. Phelps
my negro Girl named Margaret aged 8 years, slave for life and sound in body
and mind, to have and to hold the said Negro Girl (Provided the title of
Negro Ann sold him should be in any manner questioned or his right to same
interfered with under a Mortgage to Henry Page or in any other way otherwise
this Mortgage Bill of sale of no effect) as above bargained and sold unto the
said Francis P. Phelps his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns against
me the said Elijah Hurst my heirs, executors and administrators and against
all and every other person or persons shall and will warrant and defend.  In
testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal this second day
of April 1844.
