191. and for Dorchester County personally appeared Anne Page, who of our own knowledge we are satisfied is the identical person named and described as and professing to be the part Grantor within named and acknowledged the foregoing instrument of writing to be her act and deed Acknowledged before James Rea Manumission Be it remembered that the following Manumission was recorded John Kirby on the 9.th day of February 1844, To wit: to Ex.d To all whom it may concern be it known that I John Kirby Sundry Negroes of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving have released from slavery manumitted liberated and set free and by these presents do hereby release from Slavery liberate manumit and set free my negroes as follows Viz Negro Harriet being twenty four years of age on the fifth day of January last the said Harriet to serve me untill the fifth day of January Eighteen hundred and forty nine at which time she is to be free but in case of my death before her servitude as above expressed expires then and in that case the said Harriet to be free at my decease. Negro Abigail daughter of said Harriet being three years of age on the twenty second day of September Eighteen hundred and forty three to continue to serve me and my heirs untill she shall attain the age of twenty five years then to be free. Also William Henry son of said Harriet being one year of age on the twenty ninth day of June last to serve me and my heirs untill he shall attain the age of twenty five years then to be free and then the said negroes above named I do declare to be free according to the time their respective servitude as above named shall expire manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my executors or administrators forever. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this twenty ninth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty three. Signed, sealed & delivered John Kirby (seale) in the presence of James Hammersly William Fooks Maryland, Dorchester County To wit: on this 29.th day of September in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty three personally appears John Kirby party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace of the State of Maryland for the said County & acknowledges the same to be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned & the negroes within named to be manumitted and discharged from all service to him or to any claiming under him and to be free and manumitted according tot eh true intent and meaning of this instrument of writing and according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided Acknowledged before James Hammersly |
