171. Maryland, Dorchester County To wit: on this 29.th day of November 1843 Personally appeared James Kenedy before me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace in and for said County and acknowledged the above bill of Sale or instrument of writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning of the same Acknowledged before James Smith Negro Man Silas Be it remembered that the following deed of Manumission was Paid from Ex.d recorded on the 6.th day of December 1843, To wit: Ann Page sen.r To all whom it may concern be it known that we Ann Page sen.r Charlotte A. Page Charlotte A. H. Page, Ann Page J.r, Elizabeth O. Page and Frances Ann Page J.r C. Page of the Town of Cambridge in Dorchester County in the Elizabeth O. Page State of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations Frances C. Page us thereunto moving have released from slavery, liberated, manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from Slavery, liberate manumit and set free our Mulatto man named Silas being of the age of twenty three years and able to work and gain sufficient livelihood and maintenance and him the said Mulato Man named Silas we do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of service or servitude to us and our executors or administrators forever. In Witness whereof we the said Ann Page sen.r, Charlotte A. H. Page, Ann Page J.r, Elizabeth O. Page and Frances C. Page have hereunto set our hands and seals this 5.th day of December eighteen hundred and forty three. Anne Page (Seal) Signed, sealed and delivered Charlotte A. H. Page (Seal) in the presence of us Ann Page (Seal) William Rea E. O. Page (Seal) James Rea Frances C. Page (Seal) Dorchester County sct on the 5.th day of December 1843 then came before me a Justice of the Peace in and for said County Ann Page s.r, Charlotte A. H. Page, Ann Page J.r, Elizabeth O. Page and Frances C. Page parties to the within instrument of writing and acknowledged the same to be their act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the Mulato Man named therein to be henceforth manumitted and discharged from all service to them or to any claiming under them and to be free and manumitted according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided Acknowledged before James Rea Caleb Sheppard Be it remembered that the following Bill of Sale was from Ex.d recorded on the 11.th day of December 1843. To wit: Ann M. Stewart Know all men by these presents that I Ann M. Stewart of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and seventy five dollars current money to me in hand paid by Caleb Sheppard of Dorchester County and State aforesaid at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof I |
