157. act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof Acknowledged by Charles Corkran James K. Lewis Be it remembered that the following Mortgage from x.d Bill of Sale was recorded on the 25.th day of Esau Insley September 1843, To wit Know all men by these presents that I Esau Insley of Dorchester County and state of Maryland for and in consideration of the hand paid by James K Lewis of the County and State aforesaid at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged and the said Esau Insley have bargained and sold transfered at and delivered by these presents do bargain and sell transfer and deliver unto the said James K. Lewis one Negro Boy called Joe and about twelve years slave for life and sound in mind and body To have and To hold the said above described property unto the said James K Lewis his heirs and assigns to them and their sole use and uses forever against me the said Esau Insley and my heirs and against all persons whatsoever claiming or to claim the same Provided nevertheless And it is the true intent and meaning of these presents and of the said parties hereunto that if the said Esau Insley shall pay and satisfy unto the said James K Lewis the full and just sum of two hundred dollars with legal interest thereon within three years from the date of these presents then and in that case these presents and every matter and thing herein contained shall cease and utterly null and void anything herein contained to the contrary notwithstanding otherwise of full force and virtue in law In testimony whereof the said Esau Insley has hereunto subscribed his named and affixed his seal, this twenty third day of September in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and forty three Signed sealed and delivered Esau Insley (seal) in the presence of Geo A Z Smith Maryland Dorchester County Sc On this twenty third day of September in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and forty three before the subscriber one of the State of Maryland's justices of the peace in and for Dorchester County personally appeared Esau Insley party grantor in the within and aforegoing bill of sale or instrument of writing and Acknowledged the same to be his act and deed and and the property therein mentioned to be the right and title of James K Lewis his heirs and assigns according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the Acts of Assembly in such case made and provided Acknowledged before and certified by Geo A Z Smith J P Del.d J K Lewis 9 Jany 1843 by Hny |
