151 Vachel Keene Be it remembered that the following mortgage from Ex.d was recorded on the 23.d day of August 1843 to wit Robert Button This Indenture made this twenty second day of August in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty three between Robert Button of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland of the one part and Vachel Keene of County and state aforesaid of the other part, Whereas the said Robert Button by his note duly executed bearing date on the 22.d day of August 1843 stands bound unto the said Vachel Keene, his Executors, administrators and Assigns in the sum of two hundred and ninety eight dollars current money with legal interest on or before the 25.th day of December 1844 as by the said note or bill obligatory may more fully appear Now this Indenture Witnesseth that the said Robert Button in consideration of the said debt or sum of two hundred and ninety eight dollars owing to the said Vachel Keene as aforesaid and for the better securing the payment thereof with interest to the said Vachel Keene his Executors, administrators or assigns according to the conditions of the said note or bill obligatory and also in consideration of the further sum of four dollars current money to him the said Robert Button in hand well and truly paid at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents, doth grant, bargain and sell, release and confirm unto the said Vachel Keene his heirs and assigns all and singular the following Goods and chattels that is to say two Carts and four Steers five Cows, Six Yearlings, Sixteen head of Sheep, eighteen head of Hogs, one sorrel Mare, Saddle and Bridle, two Ploughs and four Chains, twenty five bushels of wheat, twelve bushels of Oats, three hundred pounds of Bacon one Bed Bedstead and furniture five Chairs, Crop of Corn on the ground twelve Barrels of Cider twenty pounds of Wool fifty pounds of Flax To have and to hold all and singular the said Goods and furniture and house hold Stuff unto the said Vachel Keene his Executors administrators and Assigns, to his and their own use and behoof Provided always and it is declared to be the true intent and meaning of these presents that if the said Robert Button do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said Vachel; Keene his Executors administrators or assigns the full sum of two hundred and ninety eight dollars current money with legal interest for the same on or before the 25.th day of December 1844 then and in such case these presents and every matter and thing shall [illegible] determine and be utterly void to all intents and purposes any thing therein contained to the contrary notwithstanding In Witness whereof the said Robert Button has hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year first |
