Algernon Hurley       Be it remembered that the following Mortgage
Ex.d   from               was recorded on the 23.d day of August 1843 to wit
Hester M.cCollister   Know all men by these presents that I Hester M.cCollister
                                of Dorchester County and state of Maryland
for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and eighty dollars
current money to me in hand paid by Algernon Hurley of the County and
State aforesaid at or before the sealing and delivering of these presents the
benifit whereof I the said Hester M.cCollister do hereby acknowledge have
granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain and
sell unto the said Algernon Hurley his Executors, administrators & assigns
one Negro Woman named Mary, one negro Boy named Noah, one negro
Girl named July Ann and now in my possession  To have and to hold
the said negroes to the said Algernon Hurley his Executors, administrators
and assigns forever  And I the said Hester M.cCollister for myself
my heirs, Executors and administrators the aforesaid Negroes to the said
Algernon Hurley his Executors, administrators and assigns against me
the said Hester M.cCollister my Executors and administrators and against
all and every person or persons whomsoever shall and will warrant and
forever defend by these presents; Provided Nevertheless that in case
I the said Hester M.cCollister shall pay and satisfy unto the said Algernon
Hurley or to his Executors, administrators or assigns the sum of one
hundred and eighty dollars current money with interest for the same
on or before the 14.th day of August 1846 then this Bill of sale and
every matter and thing therein expressed shall be void and of none effect
it being the true intent and meaning thereof that the said negroes
is mortgaged by me the said Hester M.cCollister to secure to the said
Algernon Hurley the payment of the money aforesaid  In Witness whereof
I the said Hester M.cCollister hereunto set my hand and affix my seal
the 14.th day of August 1843

Maryland, Dorchester County To Wit:  on the 14.th day of August
1843 before me one of the Justices of the Peace in and for said County
appears Hester M.cCollister and acknowledges the foregoing writing to be
her Act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and
the Act of Assembly in such case made and provided.  Witness
my hand
