127 Negro Charlotte Be it remembered that the following Manumission was Ex.d from recorded 10th may 1843 to wit To all whom it may Mary Ann Cook concern be it known that I Mary Ann Cook of Dorchester County in the state of maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving have and do release from Slavery liberate manumit and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro woman named Charlotte on the thirty first day of December in the year of our Lord Eighteen Hundred and fifty nine she being now the age of fourteen years and her the said negro woman named Charlotte after serving to the said thirty first day of December Eighteen Hundred and fifty nine I do declare to be thereafter free manumitted and discharged from all manner of service or servitude to me my Executors & administrators after serving the aforesaid term In witness I have hereunto affix my hand and seal this 13th day of april 1843 Signed sealed and delivered Mary Ann Cook (seal) in the presents of James Moobray Thomas Wingate Maryland Dorchester County to wit On this 13th day of april 1843 before me the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace in and for said County appears Mary Ann Cook and acknowledges the foregoing instrument of writing to be her act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the Act of assembly in such cases made and provided Acknowledge before James Moobray Henry Page Be it remembered that the following Mortgage Bill of Sale Ex.d from was recorded 30th may 1843 to wit Know all men by these Aaron Cook presents that I have bargained and sold to Henry Page his heirs and assigns the following negroes Slaves for life to wit a negro Samuel about twenty one years of age Daniel about fourteen years of age Peter about twenty six years of age Anne sixteen years of age and John Wesley about eight years of age to have and to hold the said negroes for his own use and benifit Provided nevertheless it is the true intent and meaning of this instrument & of the parties thereto that if the said Aaron Cook shall pay or cause to be paid to the said Henry Page the sum of four hundred and ninety four dollars on or before the first day of June eighteen hundred and forty six with legal interest which is to be paid annually on the 20th of may in each and every year then this instrument shall be come null and void else to remain in full force and effect in law In testimony of which I have hereto set my hand & seal this 20 may 1843 Signed sealed and Aaron Cook (seal) delivered in my presence James Rea Ex.d & delivered William Rea Septr 14 1843 |
