126 State of Maryland Be it remembered that the following Bond was recorded x.d may Ex.d from 1843 to wit Maryland Sct Know all men by these presents John H Hodson that we John H Hodson Thomas F Eccleston & John Bradshaw Trear P schools of Dorchester County are held and firmly bound unto the state of Maryland in the full and Just sum of Fifteen thousand dollars Current money of the United States to be paid to the said state of Maryland to the which payment well and truly to be made and done we bind ourselves and every of us our and every of our heirs executors and administrators in the whole and for the whole jointly and severally firmly by these presents sealed with our seals and dated this third day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty three the Condition of the above obligation is such that if the above bounden John H Hodson shall well and faithfully discharge the duties of Treasurer of the Primary Schools of Dorchester County according to law Then the above obligation shall be void otherwise it is to be and remain in full force and virtue in law Signed sealed and delivered Jno H Hodson (seal) in the presence of Thomas F Eccleston (seal) Jno Newton John Bradshaw (seal) James Carroll Barzzillai Slacum John Muir Samuel Dunnock Be it remembered that the following bill of sale was recorded Ex.d from 1st may 1843 to wit Know all men by these presents that John Phillips I John Phillips of Dorchester County state of maryland for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred dollars Current money to me in hand paid by Samuel Dunnock of county and state aforesaid at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof I the said John Phillips do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain & sell unto the said Samuel Dunnock one negro man Jerry aged about twenty three years a slave for life To have and to hold the above bargained and sold negro man Jerry to the said Samuel Dunnock his heirs and assigns forever In witness whereof I the said John Phillips have hereunto set my hand and seal this the 29th day of april 1843 Signed in the John Phillips (seal) presence of Henry Shenton Maryland Dorchester County to wit on this 29th day of april 1843 appeared John Phillips before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace in and for said County and acknowledged the above bill of sale to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning of the same Acknowledged before Henry Shenton |
