WILLIAM DONALD SCHAEFER, Governor                               Ch. 6

(M) CREDITABLE SERVICE.

"CREDITABLE SERVICE" MEANS THE SERVICE CREDIT OF A MEMBER THAT IS
RECOGNIZED FOR COMPUTING A BENEFIT UNDER THIS DIVISION II.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection is new language derived without substantive
change from former Art. 73B, §§ 2-101(c), 3-101(c), 4-101(b), 5-101(b),
6-101(c), 7-101(c), 8-101(b), and 10-201(b).

The former definitions from the various systems are combined to conform the
service credit provisions of the retirement systems to the service credit
provisions of the pension systems to the extent possible.

The term "service credit" is substituted for "service" and "credit" to reflect
changes in the substantive provisions for each State system.

Defined term: "Member" § 20-101

(N) DESIGNATED BENEFICIARY.

"DESIGNATED BENEFICIARY" MEANS A PERSON NAMED AS BENEFICIARY IN AN
ACKNOWLEDGED WRITTEN DESIGNATION FILED WITH THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES BY
A MEMBER, FORMER MEMBER, OR A RETIREE.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection formerly was Art. 73B, §§ 2-407(b)(l),
3-407(b)(l), 4-409(b)(l), 5-409(b)(l), 6-406(c)(l), 7-407(b)(l), 8-404(c)(l),
9-104(g)(l), and 10-220(b)(l).

The only changes are in style.

Defined terms: "Beneficiary" § 20-101
"Board of Trustees" § 20-101
"Former member" § 20-101
"Member" § 20-101
"Person" § 20-101
"Retiree" § 20-101

(O) EARNABLE COMPENSATION.

"EARNABLE COMPENSATION" MEANS ONE-TWELFTH OF THE MEMBER'S
ANNUAL SALARY RATE PAYABLE FOR WORKING THE NORMAL TIME IN THE
MEMBER'S POSITION, INCLUDING:

(1)      THE EMPLOYER PICKUP CONTRIBUTION PROVIDED FOR IN § 21-312
OF THIS ARTICLE; OR

(2)      A CONTRIBUTION MADE UNDER A SALARY REDUCTION OR
SUPPLEMENTAL RETIREMENT PLAN IN ACCORDANCE WITH TITLE 35 OF THIS
ARTICLE.

REVISOR'S NOTE: Item (1) of this section is new language derived without
substantive change from former Art. 73B, §§ 2-101(d), 3-101(d), 4-101(c),
5-101(c), 6-101(e), 8-101(c), and 10-201(c).
