WILLIAM DONALD SCHAEFER, Governor                            Ch. 126

(C) A SCHOOL BUS DRIVER WHO PICKS UP OR DISCHARGES A STUDENT ON A
PUBLIC ROAD OR HIGHWAY WITH A POSTED SPEED LIMIT OF
40 MILES PER HOUR OR
LOWER SHALL BE REQUIRED TO:

(1) BRING THE SCHOOL BUS TO A COMPLETE STOP;

(2) ACTIVATE THE RED FLASHING LIGHTS OF THE SCHOOL BUS;

(3)      WAIT UNTIL TRAFFIC IN BOTH DIRECTIONS HAS HALTED;

(4)      MOTION THE STUDENTS WHO ARE TO BE PICKED UP OR
DISCHARGED TO CROSS THE PUBLIC ROAD OR HIGHWAY; AND

(5) WAIT UNTIL THE STUDENTS HAVE CROSSED THE PUBLIC ROAD OR
HIGHWAY BEFORE PROCEEDING TO THE NEXT DESIGNATED STOP.

(D) (C) A PUBLIC AWARENESS CAMPAIGN CONCERNING SCHOOL BUS PICK
UP AND DISCHARGE SHALL BE CONDUCTED BY THE BALTIMORE COUNTY BOARD OF
EDUCATION AND THE TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT OF THE BALTIMORE
COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS, IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE BALTIMORE COUNTY
POLICE DEPARTMENT, 1 MONTH PRIOR TO THE OPENING OF SCHOOL AND DURING
THE FIRST MONTH OF EACH SCHOOL YEAR.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
October July 1, 1994.
