1994 LAWS OF MARYLAND

Treasurer, and the proceeds of the loan equal to the amount of the matching fund shall
be expended for the purposes provided in this Act. Any amount of the loan in excess of
the amount of the matching fund certified by the Board of Public Works shall be canceled
and be of no further effect.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1994.

AN ACT concerning

Baltimore County - School Buses - Pick Up or Discharge of Students

FOR the purpose of requiring school bus drivers in Baltimore County to pick up or
discharge certain students in a certain manner that does not require the students to
walk across public roads or highways
under certain circumstances; requiring
establishing a certain public awareness campaign in Baltimore County concerning
school bus pickup and discharge at certain times; and generally relating to the
transportation of students in Baltimore County.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Education

7-608.

(A)     THIS SECTION APPLIES ONLY TO BALTIMORE COUNTY.

(B)      A SCHOOL BUS DRIVER SHALL PICK UP OR DISCHARGE EACH STUDENT IN
A MANNER THAT DOES NOT REQUIRE THE STUDENT TO WALK ACROSS A PUBLIC
ROAD OR HIGHWAY WITH A POSTED SPEED LIMIT GREATER THAN 40 MILES PER
HOUR.
IF A DESIGNATED BUS STOP IS LOCATED ALONG A PUBLIC ROAD OR HIGHWAY
THAT HAS A POSTED SPEED LIMIT GREATER THAN 40 MILES PER HOUR, A SCHOOL BUS
DRIVER SHALL PICK UP OR DISCHARGE EACH STUDENT AT THE DESIGNATED BUS STOP
IN A MANNER THAT DOES NOT REQUIRE THE STUDENT TO WALK ACROSS THE PUBLIC
ROAD OR HIGHWAY.
