Ch. 3

LAWS OF MARYLAND

REVISOR'S NOTE: Subsection (a) of this section is standard
language added to introduce the basic requirements for
an applicant for a license.

Subsections (b) through (d) of this section are new
language derived without substantive change from the
second sentence and, as it related to the
qualifications of applicants for a license, the second
clause of the first sentence of former Art. 74, § 3.

In subsection (c) of this section, the duties to hold
"a limited license" and "provide pilotage" are
substituted for the former duty to "serve ... as a
lawful pilot", to conform to terminology used
throughout this title and to clarify that the former
reference to a "lawful pilot" referred to a pilot who
held a limited license. Accordingly, the former
reference to apprenticeship is omitted, as this
requirement must be met to qualify for a limited
license.

Defined terms: "Board" § 11-101

"License" § 11-101 "Limited license" § 11-101

"Provide pilotage" § 11-101

11-405. APPLICATIONS FOR LICENSES.

TO APPLY FOR A LICENSE, AN APPLICANT SHALL SUBMIT TO THE
BOARD AN APPLICATION ON THE FORM THAT THE BOARD PROVIDES.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is standard language
substituted for the provisions of the first sentence
of former Art. 74, § 4(b) that required an applicant.
to apply only in April or May unless the Board in its
discretion allowed otherwise. This substitution
reflects that, since the Board was made a part of the
Department, the Board has the capability to accept
applications at any time of the year.

Defined terms: "Board" § ll-101
"License" § 11-101

11-406. ISSUANCE AND CONTENTS OF LICENSES.

(A) NOTICE TO QUALIFIED APPLICANTS.

IF AN APPLICANT QUALIFIES FOR A LICENSE UNDER THIS SUBTITLE,
THE BOARD SHALL SEND THE APPLICANT A. NOTICE THAT STATES THAT:

(1)  THE APPLICANT HAS QUALIFIED FOR A LICENSE; AND

(2)  THE BOARD WILL ISSUE THE APPROPRIATE LICENSE TO
AN APPLICANT ON RECEIPT OF A LICENSE FEE OF:

- 502 -
