(G) LIMITED LICENSE.

(1)  "LIMITED LICENSE" MEANS A LICENSE ISSUED BY THE
BOARD TO PROVIDE PILOTAGE AS LIMITED BY § 11-407 OF THIS TITLE.

(2)  "LIMITED LICENSE" INCLUDES A 34-FOOT-DRAFT
LIMITED LICENSE AND A 28-FOOT-DRAFT LIMITED LICENSE.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection is new language added to
avoid repetition of phrases such as "limited license
to provide pilotage".

(H) PILOT.

"PILOT" MEANS AN INDIVIDUAL WHO PROVIDES PILOTAGE.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection is new language added to
provide an express definition of "pilot". It is
stated in the standard form used to define the various
business occupations regulated under this article.

Defined term: "Provide pilotage" § 11-101

(I) PROVIDE PILOTAGE.

(1)  "PROVIDE PILOTAGE" MEANS TO PILOT A VESSEL UNDER
THE PROVISIONS OF THIS TITLE WHEN THE VESSEL IS UNDERWAY ON THE
NAVIGABLE WATERS OF THE STATE, INCLUDING WHEN THE VESSEL IS
TOWING OR BEING TOWED BY ANOTHER VESSEL.

(2)  "PROVIDE PILOTAGE" DOES NOT INCLUDE:

(I)    MANEUVERING A VESSEL DURING BERTHING OR
UNBERTHING OPERATIONS; OR

(II)  SHIFTING A VESSEL WITHIN A PORT WITH TUG
ASSISTANCE AND A DOCKING MASTER ABOARD THE VESSEL.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection is new language derived
without substantive change from former Art. 74, § 8,
as that section related to those pilotage services
that must be provided by a licensee, and the second
sentence of § 9, as that sentence related to voluntary
employment of a pilot by vessels engaged in the
domestic American coastwise trade.

Former Art. 74 did not expressly define the practice
that is regulated under this title. This situation
was very unusual when compared to other licensing
