Committee considered it essential that the practice be
defined. This subsection, therefore, restates under
the definition of "provide pilotage" those activities
that were restricted under the former law to an
individual who is licensed.

SUBTITLE 2. STATE BOARD OF PILOTS.

11-201. ESTABLISHED.

THERE IS A STATE BOARD OF PILOTS IN THE DEPARTMENT.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived
without substantive change from the first and second
sentences of former Art. 74, § 1(a).

It is set forth as a separate section for emphasis.

The word "State" is added to achieve uniformity among
the names of the boards that this article governs.

The defined term "pilot[s]" is substituted for the
former term "Maryland Pilot" to conform to terminology
used throughout this title.

The former reference to "Examiners" is deleted for
conformity with the titles of other boards governed by
this article.

11-202. MEMBERSHIP.

(A) COMPOSITION; APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS.

(1)  THE BOARD CONSISTS OF 9 MEMBERS.

(2)  OF THE 9 MEMBERS OF THE BOARD:

(I)  1 SHALL BE THE SECRETARY, AS AN EX OFFICIO
MEMBER, OR A DESIGNEE OF THE SECRETARY;

(II)  1 SHALL BE THE PRESIDENT OF THE
ASSOCIATION;

(III)  3 SHALL BE RETIRED OR LICENSED PILOTS WHO
HAVE AT LEAST 5 YEARS' EXPERIENCE PROVIDING PILOTAGE;

(IV)  2 SHALL BE MEMBERS OF THE STEAMSHIP
INDUSTRY WHO ACTIVELY EMPLOY PILOTS; AND
