SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July June 1, 1989.

(House Bill 1524)

AN ACT concerning

Clerks of Court - Employees - Compensation

FOR the purpose of transferring from the Comptroller to the
Secretary of Personnel the power to set and increase the
compensation of employees of the offices of clerks of
circuit courts; and repealing an exception to this provision
for Washington County.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings

2-505.

(a)  On application of the clerk of a circuit court or on
[his] THE SECRETARY'S own initiative, the [Comptroller] SECRETARY
OF PERSONNEL may set the compensation of an employee of the
clerk's office, in accordance with this section.

(b)  The [Comptroller] SECRETARY OF PERSONNEL shall grant an
annual increase in the compensation of nonelected employees of
the clerk's office commensurate with that granted to other State
employees.
