CHAPTER 759
(House Bill 1517)

AN ACT concerning

Public Schools - Certification of Professional Personnel -

Renewal Requirements

FOR the purpose of altering the renewal requirements of
certification for certain professional personnel in public
schools; specifying that a renewal of certification is
recommended by the county superintendent having jurisdiction
over the employee under certain circumstances; making
certain stylistic changes; providing for the effective date
of this Act; and generally relating to the renewal
requirements of certification for certain professional
personnel in public schools in this State.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Section 2-303(g)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1985 Replacement Volume and 1988 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Education

2-303.

(g) (1) The State Superintendent shall certificate the
professional personnel in each public school in accordance with
this article and subject to the bylaws, rules, and regulations of
the State Board.

(2) Renewal requirements for any [teacher]
PROFESSIONALLY certificated EMPLOYEE may be waived [for a teacher
who] IF:

(i) [Is 55 years old or older] THE RENEWAL IS
RECOMMENDED BY THE COUNTY SUPERINTENDENT HAVING JURISDICTION OVER
THE EMPLOYEE; and

(ii) [Has been employed] THE PROFESSIONALLY
CERTIFICATED EMPLOYEE IS:

1. 55 YEARS OLD OR OLDER; OR
