Ch. 708                                       LAWS OF MARYLAND

the several counties. The State's Attorneys shall receive annual
payments for office, traveling and other expenses. All payments
for salaries and expenses shall be made by the respective
counties in equal monthly installments unless otherwise
specified. The salaries and expenses are as follows:

(1) In Garrett County:

(1)   [The position of State's Attorney is full time
and the salary is $34,000.] THE STATE'S ATTORNEY SHALL DEVOTE
FULL TIME TO THE DUTIES OF OFFICE.

(2)  THE STATE'S ATTORNEY IS ENTITLED TO A SALARY OF:

(I)  $38,000 FOR CALENDAR YEAR 1991;

(II)  $42,000 FOR CALENDAR YEAR 1992;

(III)  $46,000 FOR CALENDAR YEAR 1993; AND

(IV)  $50,000 FOR CALENDAR YEAR 1994 AND FOR
EACH SUBSEQUENT CALENDAR YEAR.

[(2)] (3) The State's Attorney's allowance for
postage, office and travel expenses is a minimum of $6,000.
However, any amount in excess of $6,000 shall be at the
discretion of the [Board of] County Commissioners.

[(3)] (4) The State's Attorney may appoint additional
assistant State's Attorneys as approved by the [Board of] County
Commissioners and provided for in the Garrett County budget.

[(4)] (5) The assistant State's Attorneys shall serve
at the pleasure of the State's Attorney. The assistant State's
Attorney's salary is not less than [$10,000] $25,000 a year.

[(5)] (6) (i) Subject to the approval of the [Board
of] County Commissioners and if provided for in the Garrett
County budget, the State's Attorney may appoint investigators.

(ii) A State's Attorney's investigator:

1.   Is at all times under the supervision
and subject to the rules and regulations of the State's Attorney;

2.  Shall perform the duties designated by
the State's Attorney;

3.  Shall take an oath of office
subscribed to before the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Garrett
County;

4.  Shall have at least:
