WILLIAM DONALD SCHAEFER, Governor Ch. 642

(1) Developing an inventory of the location and
condition of lighthouses in Maryland waters;

fit (2) Determining the kind of lighthouses to be
saved;

(2) (3) Designating specific lighthouses to be saved;

(3) (4) Determining, where necessary, new sites for
lighthouses;

(4) (5) Recommending, where appropriate, replacement
of site markers with scenic structures;

(5) Developing appropriate signboards to be attached
to lighthouses welcoming ships to Maryland waters;

(6)  Conducting a feasibility study on the cost to
save the lighthouses; and

(7)  Investigating sources of financial and other
assistance that may be available to save the lighthouses . ; and

(8)  Promoting a cooperative dialogue with other
jurisdictions toward the preservation and restoration of
lighthouses along the Atlantic seaboard.

(d)  The members of the Commission shall select a
chairperson from the membership.

(e)  The Commission shall report its findings and
recommendations to the Governor and, consistent with § 2-1312 of
the State Government Article, to the General Assembly by December
1, 1989 July 1, 1990, and thereafter terminate its existence.

(f)  Staff for the Commission shall be provided by the
Department of Legislative Reference and the Maryland Historical
Trust.
