(b)  Each recipient of a general State scholarship who is
enrolled in a terminal certificate program as permitted in §
18-302(b)(1)(ii) may hold the scholarship for 2 years if the same
conditions of subsection (a) of this section are met.

(c)  Each recipient of a general State scholarship may hold
the scholarship for a 5th year if the recipient:

(1)   Is enrolled in an academic program that, as
determined by the institution, requires 5 years to complete; or

(2)  Provides evidence, satisfactory to the State
Scholarship Administration, of extenuating financial, academic,
or other circumstances that prevent the recipient from completing
the academic program in 4 years.

18-804.

(e)  (1) There is a program of scholarships for nursing
students in nursing shortage areas administered by the
Commission.

(2) (i) The nursing scholarship awarded shall be in
the amount of tuition and fees not to exceed $2,400 annually for
a full-time student or a prorated award according to the number
of credit hours taken by a part-time student.

(ii) Each award shall be renewable on an annual
basis up to a maximum amount of $9,600, if the recipient:

1.  Remains a resident of this State;

2.  Enrolls in an eligible institution;

3.  Maintains a 3.0 grade average on a 4.0
scale or its equivalent; and

4.  Makes satisfactory progress toward the
nursing degree or diploma according to the standards of the
eligible institution attended.

(f)  Each recipient of the nursing scholarship awarded under
this section shall:

(1)  Be a resident of this State;

(2)  Be a nursing student;

(3)  Furnish a surety bond OR GUARANTEED PROMISSORY
NOTE
to the State with security satisfactory to the State that
upon completion of nursing studies the recipient shall, for a
period of time to be determined by the Commission serve in this
State in the particular nursing shortage area in which the
