GENERAL REVISOR'S NOTE:
As part of the ongoing revision of the Maryland laws, the
Division of Statutory Revision of the Department of Legislative
Reference reviewed the laws that regulated electricians before
October 1, 1988, with the intention of revising those laws in
this article. The Business Occupations Article Review Committee
felt that the ambiguities, gaps, and other problems in those laws
could not be resolved in a routine, nonsubstantive revision
within the mandate of the Division, which is to clarify the
existing laws, but not to change their legal effect.
Therefore, a Joint Subcommittee of the Senate Economic and
Environmental Affairs Committee and the House Economic Matters
Committee was appointed to consider the substantive problems in
the electricians law. Accordingly, Ch. 648, Acts of 1988, was
prepared to address those problems, by repealing the extant laws
on electricians and enacting, as part of a new Art. 56A, a title
on electricians. For a detailed explanation of the changes made
by Ch. 648, Acts of 1988, see the Committee Comments, which the
Publisher of the Code reproduced after the appropriate sections
-- and, in some instances, subsections -- of former Art. 56A, §§
2-101 through 2-702.
