Ch. 3
LAWS OF MARYLAND
In subsection (a)(1) of this section, the words
"licensed" and "registered as such", which formerly
modified the word "teachers", are deleted as
unnecessary and, to the extent that the former words
suggested that a school may employ other teachers,
misleading. See § 5-602 of this title.
In subsection (a)(3) of this section, the former word
"apparatus" is deleted as unnecessary in light of the
word "equipment".
In subsection (a)(6) of this section; the duty to
"require" a student to take an examination is
substituted for the former duty to "hold"
examinations, for clarity.
Subsection (a)(9) of this section is revised as a duty
of a school of cosmetology, rather than merely a
"school licensed under this subtitle"; to avoid the
unintended implication that a school that does hot
obtain a school permit may obscure its activities by
using a name that is less clear than the name of a
school that holds a school permit.
In subsection (a)(9) of this section, the defined term
"cosmetology school" is substituted for the former
limited reference to a "school of beauty culture", to
allow the name of a school of cosmetology to reflect
its association with a postgraduate school of
cosmetology. See the revisor's note to § 5-514 of
this subtitle.
In subsection (b)(1) of this section, the reference to
a master barber is added to correct an anomalous
situation under former Art. 56, § 485(a)(6)(ii), which
provided for credit only for journey barbers, although
master barbers are more highly trained. The Board
credits master barbers and journey barbers.
Also in subsection (b)(1) of this section, the former
requirement that the journey barber be trained in this
State is deleted since, under § 5-304 of this
subtitle, the Board allows credit if the barber is
licensed in this State, regardless of where the barber
trained.
In subsection (b)(2) of this section, the defined term
"cosmetology school" is substituted for the former
reference to a "program of cosmetology training", to
conform to § 5-304(d) of this title.
Also in subsection (b)(2) of this section, the
reference to the "Office of Dependents' Education" is
