AN ACT concerning
Higher Education - Tuition Assistance -
Physical and Occupational Therapy
FOR the purpose of establishing tuition assistance awards in
physical and occupational therapy for qualified students;
requiring certain tuition assistance award recipients to
provide certain services to students with developmental and
learning disabilities in publicly funded programs certain
handicapped children for a certain period; authorizing the
State Board of Education to adopt certain regulations;
waiving certain tuition assistance repayment provisions
under certain circumstances; requiring certain tuition
assistance award recipients to have certain qualifications;
defining certain terms; and generally relating to tuition
assistance for certain individuals.

Section 18-1601 through 18-1605, inclusive, to be under the
new subtitle "Subtitle 16. Tuition Assistance
Education of Physical and Occupational Therapists"

Preamble
WHEREAS, There is a severe shortage of physical and
occupational therapists trained to work with handicapped children
who have developmental and learning disabilities; and now,
therefore,
WHEREAS, The need for certified physical and occupational
therapists is expected to increase as more states implement
programs to provide services to handicapped infants and toddlers
under Public Law 99-457, "Education of the Handicapped Act
Amendments of 1986"; now, therefore,
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
