18-1601.

(A)  IN THIS SUBTITLE THE FOLLOWING WORDS HAVE THE MEANINGS
INDICATED.

(B)  "ELIGIBLE INSTITUTION" MEANS AN ACCREDITED COLLEGE OR
UNIVERSITY THAT HAS A PROGRAM OF UNDERGRADUATE OR GRADUATE
STUDIES THAT WOULD CERTIFY THE RECIPIENT TO PROVIDE PHYSICAL OR
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY AND WHICH IS: LEAD TO LICENSING AS A
PHYSICAL THERAPIST, PHYSICAL THERAPY ASSISTANT, OCCUPATIONAL
THERAPIST, OR OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ASSISTANT.

(1) AUTHORIZED BY THE STATE BOARD FOR HIGHER

EDUCATION; AND

(2) APPROVED BY THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION.

(C) "HANDICAPPED CHILD" HAS THE MEANING SET FORTH IN §
8-401 OF THIS ARTICLE.

(C) (D) "OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST" HAS THE MEANING AND
"OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ASSISTANT" HAVE THE MEANINGS SET FORTH IN §
9-101 OF THE HEALTH OCCUPATIONS ARTICLE.

(D) (E) "PHYSICAL THERAPIST" HAS THE MEANING AND "PHYSICAL
THERAPIST ASSISTANT" HAVE THE MEANINGS SET FORTH IN § 13-101 OF
THE HEALTH OCCUPATIONS ARTICLE.

(E) (F) "RECIPIENT" MEANS A RECIPIENT OF TUITION ASSISTANCE
UNDER THIS SUBTITLE.

(F) (G) "TUITION ASSISTANCE" MEANS ANY FUNDS PROVIDED FOR
THE COST OF BASIC INSTRUCTIONAL CHARGES, FEES, ROOM, BOARD, OR
OTHER RELATED EDUCATIONAL EXPENSES.

(G) (H) "SERVICE OBLIGATION" MEANS THE OBLIGATION OF
RECIPIENTS TO PROVIDE PHYSICAL OR OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY TO
STUDENTS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL AND LEARNING OF DISABILITIES IN A
PUBLICLY FUNDED PROGRAM IN THIS STATE HANDICAPPED CHILDREN IN A
PUBLIC SCHOOL IN MARYLAND OR HANDICAPPED CHILDREN PLACED IN A
NONPUBLIC EDUCATION PROGRAM AS PROVIDED UNDER § 8-409 OF THIS
ARTICLE, THE FIRST YEAR OF WHICH IS PROVIDED UNDER THE FULL-TIME
ON-SITE SUPERVISION OF A LICENSED PHYSICAL OR OCCUPATIONAL
THERAPIST WHO HAS AT LAST 2 YEARS' EXPERIENCE IN A SCHOOL
PROGRAM.

(A) THERE IS A PROGRAM OF TUITION ASSISTANCE TO TRAIN
PHYSICAL AND OCCUPATIONAL THERAPISTS THERAPISTS, PHYSICAL THERAPY
ASSISTANTS, OCCUPATIONAL THERAPISTS, AND OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
ASSISTANTS.
