Reference, the publishers of the Annotated Code of Maryland shall
propose the correction of cross-references that are rendered
incorrect by this Act.

SECTION 7. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect January 1, 1989, contingent on the taking effect of

Chapter ____ of the Acts of the General Assembly of 1988 (S.B.

1), and if Chapter ____ does not become effective, this Act shall

be null and void without the necessity of further action by the
General Assembly.

FOR the purpose of authorizing a   local   board of supervisors     of

elections to rent or     lease     voting machines to    any

educational institution for     use     in certain elections     or
votes on referendums.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 33 - Election Code

16-1.

(d) The boards in the counties shall have the power to rent
or lease voting machines to any EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION,
municipal corporation, special tax area, or other political
subdivision in that county, for use in any election or referendum
vote in [such] THE EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION, municipal
corporation, special tax area, or other political subdivision.
The rental or lease shall be on such terms and conditions as may
be determined by the board. The board shall account for and pay
