(A) [As used in this subheading:] IN THIS SUBTITLE THE
FOLLOWING WORDS HAVE THE MEANINGS INDICATED.
[(1)] (B) "Safety glazing material" means any glazing
material, such as tempered glass, laminated glass, wire glass or
rigid, plastic, which meets the test requirements of the American
National Standards Institute Standard ANSI z-97.1-1971, or as may
be amended, and such further requirements as may be adopted by
the [State] Department of [Economic] and HOUSING Community
Development after notice and hearing as required by the
Administrative Procedure Act and which are so constructed,
treated, or combined with other materials as to minimize the
likelihood of cutting and piercing injuries resulting from human
contact with the glazing material.
[(2)] (C) "Hazardous locations" means locations such
as exit doors (framed or unframed), storm doors, except operating
vents only on jalousie doors, sliding doors (both fixed and
sliding doors), shower doors, tub enclosures and fixed glazed
panels immediately adjacent to exit doors which may be mistaken
for means of egress or ingress, in residential, industrial,
commercial, institutional or public buildings; and any other
elements, glazed or to be glazed, wherein the use of other than
safety glazing materials would constitute an unreasonable hazard
as the Secretary of the [State] Department of [Economic] HOUSING
and Community Development may determine after notice and hearings
as required by the State Administrative Procedure Act; whether or
not the glazing in the doors, panels, enclosures and other
elements is transparent. The Secretary may except panels which
are less than two hundred square inches and which are so located
that the use of other than safety glazing materials would not
constitute an unreasonable hazard, as he determines after notice
and hearing.
[(3)] (D) "Fixed glazed panels immediately adjacent
to entrance and exit doors" means the first fixed glazed panel on
either or both sides of the door(s), which have a glazing less
than eighteen (18) inches from the finished floor or whose least
dimension is eighteen (18) inches or more, which may be mistaken
as a means of egress or ingress.

(a) Each light of safety glazing material manufactured,
imported, or sold for use in hazardous locations or installed in
such a location within the State of Maryland shall be permanently
labeled by etching, sandblasting, firing of ceramic material,
hot-die stamping, or by other suitable means. The label shall
identify the labeler, whether manufacturer, fabricator or
installer, and the nominal thickness and the type of safety
glazing material and the fact that the material meets the test
