WHEREAS, Enlarged capacity and extended geographic
accessibility of adult day care programs are needed to serve more
fully those persons who now are being accommodated only partly
and to reach more of the dementia victims who can benefit from
these programs of care and activity; and
WHEREAS, By all means at its disposal, the State must
promote and provide support for expansion and improvement of day
care programs; and
WHEREAS, A variety of measures must be employed, including
additional staffing, additional physical plants whether
remodeled, enlarged, or added centers, and transportation
provisions; now, therefore,
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene shall
investigate the possibility of building promote the expansion
development of new adult day care centers or using use existing
adult day care centers to care for all elderly, including persons
with Alzheimer's Disease or and related disorders.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the Department
of Health and Mental Hygiene shall consider in its investigation
the following in implementation of this Act; (1) the use of
adult day care centers inside and outside of private homes for
all elderly, including persons who suffer from Alzheimer's
Disease and related disorders; (2) the need for additional
staffing of adult day care centers; (3) the remodeling or
enlargement of existing day care centers and the building of
additional adult day care centers; and (4) the use of
transportation methods for all elderly, including persons with
Alzheimer's Disease and related disorders to and from adult day
care centers.
SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the Department
report its findings under this Act to the General Assembly and
Governor by December 1, 1986.
SECTION 4. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1986.
