   369                                    March Court 1717
   Chester in Said County to Answer unto John Burridge & Company of a plea
   that he render them the full and just Sume of Seventeen hundred fifty
   pounds of good Sound Merchantable leafe Tobacco and Cask of the value
   of Seventeen pounds Sterling money which from them he unjustly
   detains &ca. And that he have then and there the Said writ &ca.
     Att which Said next Court vizt. the Eighteenth day of March the
   Same Year of last mentioned the day of return of Said writ Came Simon
   Wilmer Gent~. high Sherf of Said County and made return thereof~
   in these words thereon Endorsed as folls viz. Cepi Corpus pr Simon Wilmer Sherf
   And A Decln being fild when Said writ Issued forth and a Copy thereof~
   Served therewith according to Act of Assembly in Such Case made-
   was as foll< s vizt. Kent County Ss William Ringgold of Kent County Planter alis
   Dics Wm Ringold of Kent County in the Province of Maryland Plantr.
   was Summoned to answer unto John Burridge & Company of a plea that
   he render them the full and just Sume of Seventeen hundred fifty pounds
   of good Sound Merchantable Leafe Tobacco and Cask of the value of—
   Seventeen pounds Sterling money which from them he unjustly detains
   &ca. And that he have then and there the Said writ &ca. And Where:
  :upon the afd Plts. by Thomas Bowne their Attry Saith that whereby
   the afd Deft by his certain Bill obligatory made Sealed and as the
   deed of the Said Deft~. to the Said Plts. the Twenty nineth day of June
   in the Year of our Lord Christ one Thousand Seven hundred and
   ffifteen at St. Pauls Parish in Kent County afd within the Jurisdiciõn
   of this Court delivered which the afd Plts with the Seale of the Deft
   afd Sealed here brings into Court did Acknowledge himselfe to be
   bound unto the afd Plts in the afd full and just Summe of Seventeen
   hundred fifty pounds of good Sound Merchantable leafe Tobacco and
   Cask of the afd value of Seventeen pounds Sterling money to be paid
   unto the afd Plts. Convenient~ in Kent County at or upon the tenth .
   day of November Ensuing the date afd yet the afd Deft~ altho’ often
   required the afd Sume of Seventeen hundred and fifty pounds of—
   Tobacco unto the Said Plts. nor any of them hath not paid but that to
   them or any of them to pay the Said Deft~ hitherto hath denied and
   Still doth denie and unjustly detain to the damage of them the Said Plts
   thirty pounds Sterling money and thereupon they bring Sute &ca ——

   and the Said Deft~. by John Johnson his attry. appeared to the above .
   accõn And the Court gives rule to the afd Deft~ to plead in two hours .
   otherwise Judgment to be rendered for want of~ the Same   after which
