    227                                 August Court 1717
   Carpenter if he Should be found in his Bailiwick that all Excuses and
   delays be Sett apart he be and appear before the Justices of our next County
   Court to be held at our Court house in the Town of Chester in Said County.
   to Answer unto a certain bill of Indictment against him for that he the
   Said Thomas Jones hath not taught or caused to be taught the trade of
   a Carpenter to a Certain Richard Willis an orphan nor ketp nor .
   caused to be kept the Said Richard Willis to any other trades According
   to Act of Assembly in Such Case made &ca. and that he have then &
   there the Said writ &ca.    .    .
      Att which Said next Court vizt. the twentieth day of August
   the Same year last mentioned the day of return of Said precept Came
   Simon Wilmer Gent high Sherf of Said County and made returne
   thereof in these words thereon endorsed as folls vizt. Sumoned pr
   me Simon Wilmer-
   Att which Said Court the Said Deft being called came and in his proper
   person appeared to the afd Indictment.   And by James Earle his .
   Attry pleads not guilty and for tryall puts himself on the Court

   and he prosecutes for our Lord proprietarie Says he is guilty
                                                                                    Jno Johnson pr Dni prp.
    And the Same being heard as well the pleadings as the
   Evidences and allegations on both Sides and the Same being
   by the Court duely Considered :    Therefore it is Considered by the
   Court here vizt. this twenty first day of August Anno Domini one
   Thousand Seven hundred and Seventeen That the Said Thomas Jones
   be Condemned the Sume of Six hundred pounds of Tobacco to be paid -
   the Said Richard Willis by reason of the Said Thomas Jones his not.
   keeping the Said Richard to his trade as by Act of Assembly in Such
   cases he was obliged to but kept the Said Richard to Common—
   Labour as also that the Said Thomas Jones pay the Sume of -
   Nine hundred and Six pounds of Tobacco Cost accrueing to the .
   officers of this Court on the premises afd .    and that the Said —
   Richard Willis be bound to another master tell he arrive at
   age   .
   John Redis an Evidence in the above cause proves he attended
   as an Evidence in the Same three days & prays an alle for the Same
   ordered by the Court here that the afd Thomas Jones pay the Said —
   John Redis ninety pounds of Tobacco for his attendance afd
