   Dictus Christopher Bateman of Kent County & Province abovesd Taylor if he Should be found
   in his Baylwick & him Safe keepe So that he have his Body before her Said Majesties
   Justices of ye next Court to be held at the Court house in the Town of Chester in Said County
   to Answer unto James Smith of a plea that he render to him ye full & Just Sume .
   of one Thousand & Two pounds of Tobacco of ye value of Eighty three Shillings &
   Six pence Sterling money which from him he unjustly detains And that he .
   have then & there the Said writt &ca.      Att which Said next Court viz.t the third -
   day of June Annoque Domini one Thousand Seven hundred and fourteen in ye
   thirteenth Year of the Reigne of her Said Majestie The Day of Return of Said writt .
   Came James Harris Gentleman and made Return thereof in these words thereon~
   Endorsed as followeth viz.t Cepi Corpus pr JaHarris Sherf —
   and a Decln being fild when Said writ Issued forth and a Copy thereof Severed [illegible]
   According to Act of Assembly in Such Cases made as folls viz.t Kent County in Maryland
   Ss Christopher Bateman of Kent County and Province afd Taylor als Dictus Cristopher
   Bateman of Kent County & Province abovesd Taylor was Summoned to Answer unto —
   James Smith of a plea that he render unto him ye full & Just Sume of one Thousand
   & Two pounds of Tobacco of ye value of Eighty three Shillings & Six pence Sterling
   money which from him he unjustly Detains and Whereupon ye afd James —
   Smith by Francis Cooke his attorney Saith that whereas ye afd Christopher Bateman
   ye fifth day of March in ye year of our Lord Christ one Thousand Seven hundred and
   Twelve (thirteen) at ye Parish of Saint Pauls in Kent County afd within ye Jurisdiccõn
   of this Court by his Certain writeing obligatory which the Said Christopher Bateman
   Sealed with his Seale and as his Act and Deed Delivered ye Date of which is ye.
   Same day & year afd Did bind himselfe his heirs Executors & Administrators to -
   pay to the afd James Smith his Certain attorney his Executors Administrators or.
   Assignes ye afd full & Just Sume of one Thousand & Two pounds of Tobacco of ye.
   afd value of Eighty three Shillings and Six pence Sterling mony in Kent County
   afd within ye Jurisdiccõn afd on Demand Yet ye afd Christopher Bateman although~
   on the tenth day of August in ye year of our Lord Christ one Thousand Seven hundred
   and thirteen at S.t Pauls Parish in Kent County afd and within ye Jurisdiccõn of .
   this Court was Demanded ye afd one Thousand & two pounds of Tobacco According
