       Maryland Prince Georges County sc.t

                   I hereby certify that the bearer hereof Charles
       who calls himself Charles Carroll a bright mulatto boy
       about nineteen years of age five feet nine inches high has a
       long scar on the inner part of the right arm a scar ^near^ the
       last Joint of the right thumb also several small scars on
       the back of the left hand that the said Charles Carroll is
       a free boy and was set free by William Carroll of the County
       aforesaid by manumission this day acknowledged & Recorded
       in my office            In Testimony &.c cert granted 14.th sep.t 1827
