       Maryland Prince Georges County to wit

                I hereby certify that the bearer hereof a
       black man who called himself John Dodson
       five feet eight inches and one Quarter of an
       inch high about twenty three years old with
       a small scar just above the thumb of his
       right hand stout and well made who was
       raised in Prince Georges County in the family
       of John Henry Hall is a freeman and was
       born free being the son of John Dodson and
       Nancy his wife who were free persons of colour
   
                Given under my hand and seal of office
                this fourteenth day of July in the year
                of our lord one thousand eight Hundred
