       Maryland Prince Georges County sc.t

                         I hereby certify that the bearer hereof
       negro Matthew who calls himself Matthew Butler
       (about twenty five years of age five feet nine and three
       quarter Inches high having a scar on the thumb of the
       right hand a large mouth and wide nostrils is a
       free man being the son of Jinny Butler a free
       woman of Colour

                                  In Testimony &.c
       certificate given February 16.th 1823

                I hereby certify that the bearer hereof
       Negro Benjamin who calls himself Benjamin
       Bacon about twenty three years of age about five
       feet four inches high of a dark complexion is a
       free man and became Entitled to his freedom by
       Virtue of a Deed of manumission from Sarah
       Ridgely to Sundry negroes bearing date the twelfth
       day of May One thousand Eight Hundred and
       including the said Benjamin and that he is the
       identical person therein named
