Ch. 289
Ch. 288, 1961, added a new section 179A to the 1957 Edition
of the Washington County Code, to provide a partial exemption for
county taxes in Washington County for certain persons over 65
years of age. This section was repealed by ch. 883 of 1963,
which enacted sec. 12C of Article 81 of the Annotated Code.
(7) Ch. 763 of 1939 and Ch. 425 of 1941 both proposed the
addition of a new section 162A to the 1930 local code, providing
a Board of Assessment of three members, two to be selected by the
County Commissioners, and to provide for their qualifications,
term of office, duties and compensation, the procedure for the
reassessment of property, notices of changes in assessments, and
the payment of salaries and other expenses of assessment and
reassessment. Both bills were vetoed by the Governor. See 1939
Session Laws, pp. 1651, 1716; 1941 Session Laws, pp. 711, 2069.
(8) Section 2 of Chapter 14 of 1981 provided that "this Act
is hereby declared to be an emergency measure and necessary for
the immediate preservation of the public health and safety and
having been passed by a yea and nay vote supported by
three-fifths of all the members elected to each of the two Houses
of the General Assembly, the same shall take effect from the date
of its passage."
(9) Ch. 856 of 1965, which revised sec. 196 in the 1957
Code, repealed sees. 197-202. These sections concerned
respectively Washington County Free Library, the Washington
County Museum of Fine Arts, the Washington County Public Health
Association and its Dental Division, the Washington County
Hospital Association, the Washington County Home for Orphans and
Friendless Children, and the Community Chest.
Sec. 196 in the 1957 Code previously had been amended by ch.
464 of 1963, and sec. 202 had been amended by ch. 279 of 1959 and
ch. 240 of 1961.
Payments to the Washington County Free Library were covered
by Section 165 of the 1930 Edition of the local code. It was
subsequently amended by 1939, ch. 759; 1941, ch. 565; 1943, ch.
419; 1947 Sp. Sess. ch. 26; 1953, ch. 287; and 1955, ch. 396.
For a similar bill vetoed in 1947, see 1947 Session Laws, p.
2282. The section was repealed by ch. 780 of 1957.
Payments to the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts were
covered by Section 686 of the 1930 Edition of the local code. It
was subsequently amended by 1945, ch. 44 and 1947, ch. 503, and
was repealed by 1957, ch. 780.
Payments to the Washington County Public Health Association
were covered by Section 695 of the 1930 Edition of the local
code, which was repealed by ch. 780 of 1957. Section 695A,
enacted by ch. 177 of 1939, covered the Dental Division and was
also repealed by ch. 780 of 1957.
