"Veteran" § 9-901

9-920. ESTABLISHED.

THERE IS A MARYLAND VETERANS' HOME COMMISSION.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived
without substantive change from the provisions of the
first sentence of former Art. 96 1/2, § 51A that
created the Commission.

It is set forth as a separate section for emphasis.

9-921. MEMBERSHIP.

(A)  COMPOSITION; APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS.

THE VETERANS' HOME COMMISSION CONSISTS OF THE FOLLOWING 15
MEMBERS:

(1)  11 INDIVIDUALS APPOINTED BY THE GOVERNOR WITH THE
ADVICE AND CONSENT OF THE SENATE; AND

(2)  AS EX OFFICIO MEMBERS:

(I)  THE GOVERNOR;

(II)  THE PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE;

(III)  THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES;
AND

(IV)  THE CHAIRMAN OF THE MARYLAND VETERANS
COMMISSION.

(B)  TENURE; VACANCIES.

(1)  THE TERM OF AN APPOINTED MEMBER IS 4 YEARS.

(2)  THE TERMS OF THE APPOINTED MEMBERS ARE STAGGERED
AS REQUIRED BY THE TERMS PROVIDED FOR MEMBERS OF THE VETERANS'
HOME COMMISSION ON OCTOBER 1, 1984.

(3)  AT THE END OF A TERM, A MEMBER CONTINUES TO SERVE
UNTIL A SUCCESSOR IS APPOINTED AND QUALIFIES.

(4)  A MEMBER WHO IS APPOINTED AFTER A TERM HAS BEGUN
SERVES ONLY FOR THE REST OF THE TERM AND UNTIL A SUCCESSOR IS
APPOINTED AND QUALIFIES.

(C)  REPRESENTATION.

AS FAR AS IS PRACTICABLE AND IS CONSISTENT WITH THE PURPOSES
AND GOALS OF THE VETERANS' HOME COMMISSION, THE GOVERNOR SHALL
CHOOSE APPOINTED MEMBERS SO AS TO HAVE A BROAD DISTRIBUTION FROM
