LAWS OF MARYLAND

Ch. 284

It is set forth as a separate section for emphasis.
Defined term: "Department" § 2-1301
2-1317. REVISOR.

(A)  POSITION AND APPOINTMENT.

(1)  THE HEAD OF THE DIVISION IS THE REVISOR OF
STATUTES, WHO SHALL BE APPOINTED JOINTLY BY THE PRESIDENT AND THE
SPEAKER.

(2)  THE PRESIDENT AND THE SPEAKER SHALL APPOINT THE
REVISOR FROM A LIST OF 1 OR MORE QUALIFIED INDIVIDUALS SUBMITTED
TO THE PRESIDENT AND THE SPEAKER BY THE DIRECTOR. THE PRESIDENT
AND THE SPEAKER MAY REJECT ANY LIST AND ASK FOR ANOTHER.

(B)  TENURE.

THE REVISOR HOLDS OFFICE DURING GOOD BEHAVIOR.

(C)  QUALIFICATIONS.

THE REVISOR MUST BE EXPERIENCED IN REVISING STATUTES AND
DRAFTING LEGISLATION.

(D)  REMOVAL.

(1)  SUBJECT TO THE HEARING REQUIREMENTS OF THIS
SUBSECTION, THE PRESIDENT AND THE SPEAKER MAY REMOVE THE REVISOR
FOR INEFFICIENCY, NEGLECT OF DUTY, OR MISCONDUCT IN OFFICE.

(2)  BEFORE THE PRESIDENT AND THE SPEAKER REMOVE THE
REVISOR, THEY SHALL:

(I)  PREPARE WRITTEN CHARGES; AND

(II)  GIVE THE REVISOR A COPY OF THE CHARGES AND
AN OPPORTUNITY FOR A PUBLIC HEARING.

(3)  NOTICE OF THE HEARING SHALL BE GIVEN TO THE
REVISOR AT LEAST 10 DAYS BEFORE THE HEARING.

(4)  THE REVISOR MAY BE REPRESENTED AT THE HEARING BY
COUNSEL.

(E)  SALARY.
THE REVISOR:

(1)  IS ENTITLED TO THE SALARY PROVIDED IN THE STATE
BUDGET; BUT

(2)  MAY NOT RECEIVE ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION FOR BEING
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE COMMISSION TO REVISE THE ANNOTATED CODE
OF MARYLAND.
