854 of a Tract of Land called Neales Gift These are therefore humbly to Certifye that Wee have duly Sworne & Examined the Severall & Respective Evidences the Depositions of which are hereunto annexed Anthony Neale aged fifty three years or thereabouts declares on the holy Evangelist that near forty years since (as near the time as shewed him a White oake Tree that stands by a path (and on the South side of the same) that comes from a plantation whereon Cap.t Josias Fendall did then Inhabitt The said plantation being now called Charles Towne and Leads a Cross a Neck of Land and into the Narrows of Neales Neck so that called (otherwise Wooliston Mann.r) And the said James Neale then told this Depon.t that at that place was the beginning Bounds of a Tract of Land called Gills Land which Cap.t James Neale the father of the said James and alsoe of this Deponent then ownes And Further the said James Neale the Younger then shewed this Deponent Two small Spanish oake saplins which grew on each side of the Said White oake near the root thereof and told this Deponent that in case the old Tree should decay or by any Accident be gone that the two young ones would be proper to distinguish the Said Place or words Tending to that purpose and told this Depon.t to remember and be sure not forgett the Beginning bounds of said Gills Land And further this Deponent declareth that in the year one thousand six hundred Eighty and two his above mentioned Father Cap.t James Neale having Cap.t Rand.o Brandt the then Survey.r of Charles County at the above declared place shewed the Said Brandt the Pattent of the said Gills Land and told the Said Brandt that the above mentioned Trees was the beginning bounds of the Said Land and ordered the said Survey.r to sett his Compass at the Said Trees and Runn out the East South East Line of said Land according to Pattent into the River of Wiccocomico which the said Survey.r accordingly did then in presence of Cap.t James Neale and of this Deponent and severall other persons who are since Dead and then had the Said Line marked with double Blazes one above another on the Line Trees which Lined Tees are many of the (still |
