(675) Robert Coverthoughts Depositions about his Land call Barkett Richard Marsham aged seventy seven years or thereabouts deposeth and saith that about forty years agoe y.e Southermost bounds of Marshland formerly y.e Land of John Read but now the Land of Robert Coverthought was Reputed to be a Markt Oake that did then stand a Little to the Southward of a small Valley that Leades into a Marsh which Marsh with the Banks of Sand on each side of marked a point Comonly called or known by the name of Coverthoughts point & further the said Depon.t deposeth and saith that afterwards of forty years agoe there stood a Mark't Oake Tree on the North side of the first pond next adjoyning to the North Side of Robert Coverthoughts old field on a point near the River Side which was Reputed then to be the bounded Tree of a pcell of Land called Burkett next adjoyning to the Land of Ashcome & further y.e Depon.t Deposeth and Saith that about forty years agoe he y.e said Dep.t being in Company with M.r Thomas Trueman then Survey.r of Calvert County and Robert Coverthought Sen.r y.e said Thomas Trueman did Runn an East Course from Burketts bounded Tree standing by the pond aforesaid to a bounded white oake which was Reputed to be y.e North East bounded Tree of the aforesaid Land Called Bunkett and further y.e Depon.t now saith that about one hundred yards to y.e Eastward of the Road that goeth from Hutchins's Mill to Bozards Island and About fifty yards to the Westward of a peice of Sunken Ground there now stands a white oake that the said Deponent doth Really Suppose to be the bounded white oake afd and further saith not May the 19.th 1710 Sworne before me Robert Skinner John Bigger aged fifty two years or thereabouts deposeth and saith that in y.e Year of our Lord 1671 he the said Depon.t did board or dwell at the house of one John Aderson In Calvert County which Said Adderson was then Married to the Relict or Widdow of Rob.t Coverthought Sen.r of Calvert County and further the Depon.t saith that the said Aderson did shew him y.e said Dep.o a bounded oake that stood on a bank near Patuxent River Side about Tenn or fifteen paces to the Southward of a Small Valley that Leads into a Marsh which Marsh with banks of sand on each side of it makes a point Comonly called or knowne by the name of Coverthoughts point and the said Depon.t deposeth & saith that the said Aderson did tell him y.e said Depon.t that the afd oake was y.e Southward most bounds of the Land where he then dwelt which had been the land formerly of one Read and at that time belonged to one Robert Coverthought Jun.r and the Deponent further saith that he hath often times seen the said oake Tree it standing but a little |
