             Depositions for Coll Lloyd for y.e Land Nathaniels point Filed 7.ber 5.° 1704

       The Answers of Cap.t John Davis aged sixty years or thereabouts to sev.ll Questions asked
       him by Coll Edward Lloyd of Talbot Co.ty of & concerning y.e sale of a certain
       tract of Land cont 50.a called Nathaniels point lying in Wye River in y.e s.d
       County from Nathaniell Cleeve of Talbot Co.ty to one Hen.r Hawkins of y.e same to
       He y.e s.d Davis having first taken his Corporall Oath before me W.m Coursey
       Comission.r especially appointed by a Comiss.n from her Maj.ties high Court of
       Chancery bearing date y.e 13 day of Oct.r 1702  At w.ch Examination I (as
       by s.d Comiss.n directed) did give Notice to Emanuel Cleeve to have been present
       but for some time past he hath absented himself out of this province
      
       Imp.r   Do or did you know M.r Hen.r Hawkins late of Talbot Co.ty decd
                  & Nathaniel Cleeve of y.e same Co.ty likewise decd

       Ans.r   Yes I know them both very well

       2.d   Do you know a tract of Land called Nathaniels point in Wye River

       Ans.r    I was shewed y.e land called Nathaniels point above thirty seven
                   years past by one John Scott & was told by him y.t it was sold by Nath.ll
                   Cleeve to M.r Hen.r Hawkins for a Case of Spirits & when I came into
                   this County about or near forty years since being a soldier I was
                   quartered at y.e house of M.r Rich.d Woolman & son of my Fellow
                   soldiers were at y.e same time quartered at M.r Hen.r Hawkins whom
                   going often to visit I went one with one Robert Noble who was then overseen
                   to M.r Woolman & going along y.e Road he shewed Me an oak standing by
                   y.e Roadside w.ch he called y.e Batchelers Oak & told Me y.t some time before
                   he with M.r Hen.r Hawkins Nathaniel Cleeve William Jones Hen.r Costin &
                   some others being in Company at y.t true did drink out a Case of Spirits
                   w.ch was given by y.e s.d Hen.r Hawkins to Nathaniel Cleeve for & in Consideration
                   of a tract of land not far distant from y.e s.d tree & y.t they then
                   named y.t y.e Batchelers tree  And I afterwards lived with Will.m Jones
                   who hath ^as^ shewed Me y.e same tree & sold Me y.e same story  And so also
                   hath Hen.r Costin & M.r Henry Hawkins

       3.d    To whom in yo.r time & knowledg was y.t Land called Nathaniels
                point deemed or reputed to belong

       Ans.r    Ever to M.r Hen.r Hawkins during his Life & after his death
                   to Coll Phil Lloyd  And I having lived within two Miles of y.e
                   said Nathaniel Cleeve between fifteen & twenty years  And
                   being very Conversant with him yet never heard him lay any Claim
                   to y.e Land but would sometimes say he was wheedled out
                   of it
