       To all People to whom these p.rsents shall Come know ye that
       Whereas one John Lucas Marriner and Mate on Board the Sloop Roanoke
       Merch.t was on the Twenty Seaventh day of July last by a Pyrate taken
       and Carried from on Board the s.d sloop to which he belonged on Board
       the s.d Pyrates ship and there deteined by force and Compelled to leave
       his Imploy and what goods he had on Board the said sloop and likewise his wages
       due did then and there in the p.rsence and hearing of the Wittnesses
       hereunto subscribed make and Assigne with his own hand a Certein writeing
       in the Nature of a Letter of Attorney thereby Impowering one Samuel
       Jones then belonging to the said Sloop to demand Receive and take into
       his Custody and Possession all his Wages and other goods due and belonging
       to him the Said John Lucas which said Writeing or Letter of Attorney
       is hereunto annexed and proved to be the Act and Deed of him the said
       John Lucas and that he did publish and declare the Same to be his true
       Intent and Meaning In Testimony of the truth hereof the Witness ^have^ hereunto
       subscribed and made Oath upon y.e holy Evangelist this 4.th day of August
       1699

          The forme of the s.d writeing or Letter of Attorney are the words
          following viz.t


                                  July the 26 day
       Samuel Jones this to desire you to receive forme a board of the
       said sloop Roanoke Merch.t Cap.t Nich.o Thomas Jones Comand.r the sume of
       fourty Bushells of Corne and four Bushells of Beans and a pare of
       quarnes stones att Annapolis of M.r Jackson w.th Irons to them and
       Likewise of Wages due to me a board the s.d Sloop att three pounds P Month
       the sume of four Months pay 'bateing 13 days in full of what wages due
       to me ten pounds ten shillings   Wittness my hand

          More due to me att the Grovers att Annapolis one Buckskin and a
          Fox skin
