       as in y.e s.d Articles is mentioned & covenanted  That he would well &
       sufficiently amend y.e breach in y.e Dam & set a going both y.e Mills
       with all necessary Reparations Wormanlike & at y.e end of y.e s.d three
       years to deliver y.e possession to y.e plts as by y.e s.d Articles of Agreement
       may more at large appear  The s.d Complts imediatly put y.e s.d Deft in
       possession thereof who promised forthwith to go about y.e repairing thereof
       But y.e same being by y.e s.d Deft neglected y.t year y.e breach of y.e dam
       grow for Much wider & y.e Floods had like to have carried all away through
       his Neglect & by y.e Means y.e Charge of Repairs was become greater
       & thereupon y.e s.d Deft in Aprill 1685 & at severall other times became
       an earnest & importunate solliciter to y.e plts to have his
       term inlarged for five years longer than his s.d former term or else
       he must be forced to throw them up & leave them & y.e s.d Compl.ts
       to y.e Judgm.t of y.e Law  Whereupon & his unwearied soliciations
       pretended y.e Complt Hill was willing to do y.e same if y.e other
       Complt Carvile would consent to do y.e same as y.e Deft then
       said and procured from y.e s.d Carvile a Letter directed to y.e s.d Hill
       dated y.e 8.th day of June 1685  Wherein y.e s.d Carvil writ as follows
       M.r Clement Hill I have through y.e Importunity of Lynes &
       Consideration of his great Charges (if protestations may have Credit
       & y.e Certificat of y.e Gentl.n of Charles County & prospect of
       y.e future advantage of y.e persons for whom you & I are intrusted)
       concluded with myself (without any Imposition upon yo.r discretion
       to incline yo.r Consent farther than you may in conscience
       be inclined) to grant M.r Lynes an addition of five years more
       to be added to y.e other lease of y.e Mills upon these Conditions
       (1) That he pay y.e 10000. tob allready agreed upon at y.e daies
       agreed on (2.ly) That there be now articles of agreement
       drawn with Covenants advisedly penned for all y.e new work
       to be done & as near as may be punctually expressed as to
       Flood gates dams peer head Conduits wheels &c (3.ly) That
       he get y.e Gentl of S.t Maries Counties hands to y.e Certificate
       signed by y.e Charles County Gentl (4.ly) That he &
       his attorney assist with their advice in procuring some
       order of y.e provinciall Court or his Lpps Councill upon
       y.t Certificate for our Indemnity as far as may be obtained &
       at his Charge (5.ly) That after y.e Mills go you & I may
       have y.e Refusall & first purchase at y.e Market price of twenty
       barrells of Corn & ten bushells of wheat a piece (6.ly) To leave them
       in tenantable Repair substantiall & good with all utensills belonging
       at y.e end of y.e term without any Let suit or Eviction
       This if you approve of I shall joyne in a Lease not else & y.t
       M.r Lynes give us a pticular of y.e Charges by him expended
       And y.e s.d Carvil having so writt y.e same y.e s.d Lynes desired to
       have y.e same read to him wch accordingly y.e s.d Carvil did & sealed
       y.e same up directed to y.e s.d M.r Hill & deliver'd y.e same to
