a public defender; providing that the funds shall be
collected from an individual's earnings while on work
release, under certain circumstances; and generally relating
to the payment of public defender services from certain
earnings of individuals on work release.
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
Article 27 - Crimes and Punishments
Section 645Y(f)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article 27 - Crimes and Punishments
645Y.
(f) (1) The administrator or his designee shall collect
each participant's total earnings, less payroll deductions. From
the earnings, the administrator or his designee shall pay:
(i) The cost to the county of providing food,
lodging, and clothing for the participant;
(ii) The food, travel, and other expenses of
the participant incidental to participation in the program;
(iii) Voluntary or court ordered payments for
support of dependents;
(iv) Court ordered costs and fines; [and]
(v) Repayment to this State for court appointed
counsel[.]; AND
(VI) IF ORDERED BY THE COURT, REPAYMENT TO THIS
STATE FOR THE SERVICES OF THE PUBLIC DEFENDER.
(2) Any balance shall be credited to the
participant's account and be disposed of as requested by the
participant, with the approval of the administrator.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1983.
