MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE
June 1, 1982
The Honorable Benjamin L. Cardin
Speaker of the House of Delegates
State House
Annapolis, Maryland 21404
Dear Mr. Speaker:
In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the
Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill 165.
This bill increases the expense allowance of the
sheriffs of Baltimore City by $100. It has been brought to
my attention that the sheriffs were included in the annual
salary review conducted by the Secretary of Personnel and
that the emolument provided by this bill is therefore
unnecessary. The Chairman of the Baltimore City Delegation,
the Baltimore City Senators, and the chief sponsor of the
bill agree that House Bill 165 should be vetoed in light of
the salary adjustment made for the sheriffs of Baltimore
City. A copy of the veto request from Baltimore City is
attached and should be considered as part of this message.
For this reason I have decided to veto House Bill 165
with the consent of the chief sponsor.
