ELECTION OF PRESIDING OFFICER
The first order of business was the election of a
temporary presiding officer.
The Honorable Joseph J. Long nominated the Honorable
Frederick C. Malkus, Jr. as temporary presiding officer,
which nomination was seconded by the Honorable Harry J.
McGuirk and the Honorable James Clark, Jr. There being no
further nominations, the Honorable Frederick C. Malkus, Jr.
was unanimously elected temporary presiding officer.
The Honorable Joseph J. Long and the Honorable Edward
P. Thomas were appointed to escort the President Pro Tem to
the Chair.
The Secretary of the Senate then administered the oath
of office to the President Pro Tem.
The next order of business was the election of a
permanent presiding officer. This election was presided
over by the President Pro Tem of the Senate.
The Honorable Margaret C. Schweinhaut, seconded by the
Honorable Clarence W. Blount and the Honorable Jerome F.
Connell nominated the Honorable James Clark, Jr. for
President of the Senate.
The roll was then called, which resulted in the
election of the Honorable James Clark, Jr. of Howard and
Montgomery Counties for President of the Senate.
The Honorable Rosalie Silber Abrams and the Honorable
Edward J. Mason were appointed to escort the President to
