MUNICIPAL CHARTERS

Gordon to annex to the Town of Myersville 10.8918 acres of
land, more or less, was approved by the Mayor and Town
Council, subject to certain conditions, and

WHEREAS, appropriate notice was given to the Board of
County Commissioners of Frederick County, Maryland, and
appropriate planning agencies, and a public hearing on the
matter was held 9 December 1980, after due publication of
notice, and

WHEREAS, the application was approved at the public
meeting of 9 December 1980 subject to further conditions.

CHARTER AMENDMENT NO. 82-01

A RESOLUTION TO ADOPT AMENDMENTS TO THE CHARTER OF THE
CITY OF NEW CARROLLTON, PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MARYLAND
(SECTION 9 OF ARTICLE 17, OF THE CODE OF PUBLIC LOCAL LAWS
OF MARYLAND, EVERSTINE'S 1963 EDITION, AS AMENDED) AMENDING
SUBSECTION 3.b.(2.), ENTITLED "ELECTED OFFICIALS:
VACANCIES," OF SECTION 3 OF SAID CHARTER, ENTITLED
"GOVERNMENT OF THE CITY;" SUBSECTION 7.a., ENTITLED "CONDUCT
AND PROCEDURES," OF SECTION 7 OF SAID CHARTER, ENTITLED
"ELECTIONS;" SUBSECTION 7.b., ENTITLED "NOMINATION OF
CANDIDATES," OF SECTION 7 OF SAID CHARTER, ENTITLED
"ELECTIONS;" AND SUBSECTION 7.d., ENTITLED "CANDIDATES
ELECTED," OF SECTION 7 OF SAID CHARTER, ENTITLED
"ELECTIONS," TO PROVIDE THAT A SPECIAL ELECTION SHALL BE
HELD WITHIN A PRESCRIBED PERIOD IF A VACANCY OCCURS IN THE
OFFICE OF COUNCILMEMBER.

WHEREAS, members of the City Council are elected for
terms of office of two years; and

WHEREAS, the terms of office of members of the City
Council are staggered, with three members elected each
odd-numbered year and two members elected each even-numbered
year; and

WHEREAS, vacancies occur from time to time on the City
Council creating unexpired terms; and

WHEREAS, the registered voters of the city in an
advisory referendum held on May 4, 1981 recommended that
