HARRY HUGHES, Governor                                    519

to avoid repetition of phrases such as "public
facilities within the jurisdiction of the
{Administration}".

Defined terms: "Administration" § 10-101
"Facility" § 10-101

(I) TREATMENT.

"TREATMENT" MEANS ANY PROFESSIONAL CARE OR ATTENTION
THAT IS GIVEN IN A FACILITY OR VETERANS' ADMINISTRATION
HOSPITAL TO IMPROVE OR TO PREVENT THE WORSENING OF A MENTAL
DISORDER.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection formerly appeared as
Article 59, § 3(m).

The reference to a "Veterans' Administration
hospital" is added to correct an apparent
oversight, since this definition would appear to
apply to care or treatment provided in those
hospitals.

The former reference to a "patient" is deleted as
unnecessary.

The only other changes are in style.

Defined terms: "Facility" § 10-101
"Mental disorder" § 10-101

REVISOR'S NOTE TO SECTION: Former Article 59, § 3(b),
which defined "Commissioner", is deleted as
obsolete. Under Ch. 746, Acts of 1976, the
functions of the Commissioner are exercised by
the Director of Mental Hygiene.

Former Article 59, § 3(1), which defined

"Secretary", is deleted   as unnecessary in light

of the definition of that   term in § 1-101 of this
article.

10-102. LEGISLATIVE POLICY.

IT IS THE POLICY OF THIS STATE:

(1)  TO THE BEST OF ITS ABILITY, TO FOSTER AND
PRESERVE THE MENTAL HEALTH OF ITS CITIZENS; AND

(2)  TO THAT END, TO PROVIDE WITHOUT PARTIALITY
CARE AND TREATMENT TO CITIZENS WHO HAVE MENTAL DISORDERS.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section formerly appeared as the
first and second sentences of Article 59, § 2.
