(House Joint Resolution No. 59)

A House Joint Resolution concerning

Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard

FOR the purpose of urging the Mayor and City Council of
Baltimore to rename the Harbor City Boulevard to be The
Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.

WHEREAS, Martin Luther King, Jr. was one of the most
prominent black leaders of this nation; and

WHEREAS, Dr. King's abilities and accomplishments have
been recognized throughout the world; and

WHEREAS, Dr. King was the recipient of many awards,
including the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize; and

WHEREAS, It would be befitting to rename a major artery
leading into Baltimore City after such a distinguished
person as Dr. King; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
Mayor and City Council of Baltimore are urged to take
appropriate steps to rename the Harbor City Boulevard as The
Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be sent to the
Mayor and City Council of Baltimore, the President of the
City Council, the Comptroller of Baltimore City, and the
Baltimore City Solicitor, 100 North Holiday Street,
Baltimore, Maryland 21202.
