Manicurists - Scope of Practice - Renewal Fees

FOR the purpose of allowing a holder of a certificate as a
manicurist to practice beauty culture his or her
profession at certain locations; eliminating the
requirement that a holder of a certificate as a
manicurist practice beauty culture at a registered
beauty shop; and clarifying which renewal fees a holder
of a certificate as a manicurist is required to pay,
requiring the State Board of Cosmetologists to refund
certain fees paid by certain manicurists; and making
stylistic corrections.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

(H.B. 523) of the Acts of the General Assembly of 1982)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland

(as enacted by Chapter ____ (H.B. 523) of the Acts of the

General Assembly of 1982) read(s) as follows:

Article 56 - Licenses

483.

(A)  No person shall be permitted by the Board to take
an examination to receive a certificate as a manicurist
unless the person is at least 17 years of age, and has
completed not less than 100 hours of instruction in that
practice in a beauty school duly registered by the Board, or
has served as an apprentice under the supervision of a
licensed manicurist in an approved beauty shop for a period
of not less than three months.

(B)  The holder of a special certificate shall engage
only in the limited practice of the art of beauty culture
authorized by the special certificate.
